SGN

Some Good News or SGN, the brainchild of actor, director, and comedian John Krasinski, has been keeping spirits high during the ongoing world pandemic.

As many great creative endeavors go, it started as a very basic attempt to bring warm and fuzzy clips of people being kind to one another with signage and props made by his young daughters. My guess is the first episode budget was about $50 bucks. Occasionally, his actress wife, Emily Blunt (Mary Poppins), will pop in for a segment too. SGN has evolved to well, pretty much more of the same. And I have to say, each 15-20 episode is pure entertainment! (Just try not to watch the whole thing.)

The SGN logo was created by John Krasinski’s daughter, Hazel.

John is funny. Effortlessly so. And he is senstive too. More than once I have witnessed him tearing up at the news he is sharing.

There are many individuals and organizations out there trying to do some good in this new world. 5 Heart Rating couldn’t be happier with John’s success at bringing some attention to these wonderful acts of kindness and general caring for our fellow human beings far and wide at a very, very difficult time.

His latest weekly episode (#5) features a potluck, where viewers submitted family recipes and then were invited on the show. Virtually, of course. Their recipes were recreated by the likes of David Chang and Guy Fieri. The segment wraps with special news for Fieri from the Pepsi Company – Apparently the Pepsi Co. is contributing millions to the famous chef’s Restaurant Employee Relief Fund (RERF) supporting restaurant workers around the country. (This is one of those times I witnessed John tearing up a bit. And I have to admit I did too. Made me think of my mom who drank Pepsi daily and a fact that still makes me laugh a little – I didn’t even know what Coke was until we moved to Florida where all carbonated beverages were called “soda”. Which was another culture shock for me.)

You’ll get to watch all kinds of featured celebs such as , Stephen Colbert, Billie Eilish, the Jonas Brothers, Chance the Rapper, and some lesser-knowns (well at least they used to be before their appearance on SGN) such as father-daughter duo from Alabama, Marli and Robby Odgers. The two are shown dancing together because Dad made Marli get up, get dressed, and “go to prom together”. One of the SGN episodes is dedicated to prom that so many highschoolers are missing. It’s all very sweet.

You can catch all episodes at SGN’s YouTube channel. Here’s the first one. Hope you enjoy it as much as we here at 5 Heart Rating do! I especially laughed at John’s numerous references to copyright infringement all throughout the episodes. Makes me smile every time. Who would dare sue a network called Some Good News! Well if they do, I’m sure Mr. Krasinski will find the humor in it somehow. Thanks John!
