I Am (the film)

imageIt’s so tempting to want to quote two lines in particular from this documentary film. But I’d love for you to see it the way I did, not knowing much about it. Prior to viewing I Am, I didn’t know anything about the film’s creator, Tom Shadyac. And apparently I am of the minority because when I mentioned the film and Tom Shadyac to a group of people the day after I saw it, almost everyone knew who he was.

From the director of Liar Liar, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Nutty Professor, and Bruce Almighty, comes I Am, Tom Shadyac’s personal journey and a look at his views regarding the nature of humanity and the world’s addiction to materialism.

This film gets a 5 Heart Rating for the interviews throughout and although this film may not resonate with everyone, it offers a perspective worth considering. The surprise at the end of the film where Shadyac interviews his own father was especially touching for me, given the fact that I learned his dad was a key player in creating one of my favorite non-profits.

I Am is available on Netflix.
