A Motown Christmas

Fortunate for me, my adult children love Motown. They’ve seen The Temptations three times! So when my daughter asked if I’d like to kick off the holiday season by seeing “A Motown Christmas” with her, I replied with a resounding “Yes!” Of course, she already knew I’d want to go. But both of us were absolutely blown away by the experience.

Nothing could have prepared us for the nearly non-stop 3-hour performance by this incredibly talented group of musicians. Vocals comprised of past members of Ali Woodson’s Temptations, The Miracles and The Contours. If you’re a Motown fan, you know the level of talent we’re talking here. If you’re not, I’d highly recommend that if you ever have the opportunity to see “A Motown Christmas”, grab some friends and go!

The average age in the audience was about my age. My daughter was one of the only people under 50 that I saw. And most of those “younger people” were accompanying someone much older. What a shame! I’d love to see younger generations embrace this genre of music more. This performance was some of the best live music I’ve ever experienced. And I haven’t even mentioned the 7-piece band yet! Or the choreography! The band was amazing!!

Just Google “A Motown Christmas” especially as it gets closer to Christmastime next year to see if they’re coming to a venue near you. But don’t wait to get tickets too close to the show. Ours was sold out and my guess is each year if will get more and more popular!

Barry Gordy founded Motown the year I was born. Here’s a brief history written by Time Magazine:
